Description
|
Short Song Description: This is a song I wrote for my daughter - a typical "teenager" who is FINALLY starting to mature (I think) as she moves rapidly towards adulthood and (hopefully) getting out on her own.
|
Long Song Description: SAKURA is Cherry Blossom in Japanese -- it also happens to be the name of my daughter - but the significance of the Sakura in Japanese culture is profound ... maybe almost obsessive - The Japanese practically "worship" the Sakura - in fact they have great festive parties each spring in celebration of the Sakura blossoms -
The deeper significance (I think) is that (as the bridge points out) the beauty and wonder of these precious moments are very fleeting in our lives and we need to appreciate them -- also, the natural flow of spring to the following seasons is a metaphor for maturing from youth -
something to look forward to but also to regret with some nostalgia -- in this case, both as the child and the parent
|
Story Behind the Song: Hmmm ... this one was pretty easy - obviously the relationship for parents with their teenagers is often tenuous at best -- in particular at times between father and daughter
- recenty my wife told me "why don't you write a song about your daughter" - I think she meant this more as a challenge for me to take a deeper look at our relationship in reference to her stage of life and that she would not be our "little girl" much longer -- so, I did ...
Maybe some can look back at their own teenage years and reflect on this - but more likely (and hopefully) adult parents can relate to this song and better see the akward kid is now "blossoming" into adulthood and take a better appreciation for the children (as tuff as it is some times)
